Why do I need a competent person?
Legal Basis:
Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (HASAWA): Section 2(1): Employers must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of employees.
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR) Regulation 7 – Health and safety assistance: Every employer shall appoint one or more competent persons to assist them in undertaking the measures they need to take to comply with the requirements of health and safety law.
A competent person provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to identify hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety law.
If a company doesn’t have that competence in-house or is too busy to manage this effectively, Safety Objectives can act as your appointed competent person, ensuring all legal requirements are met on your behalf.
