Time Out For Safety
Time Out for Safety
Learning Through Discussion, Experience and Shared Knowledge
Safety is more than procedures, permits and paperwork. It is built through conversations, shared experiences and a willingness to learn from one another.
The Time Out for Safety section has been created to provide practical safety discussions that encourage workers to stop, think and reflect on the risks they face every day. These sessions are designed to support learning, raise awareness and strengthen the safety culture both on and offshore.
Every incident, near miss, unsafe condition or successful intervention provides an opportunity to learn. By discussing real situations and common workplace challenges, we can help workers identify hazards earlier, make better decisions and prevent incidents before they occur.
Why Time Out for Safety Matters
Regular safety discussions help workers to:
Increase awareness of workplace hazards.
Learn from incidents, near misses and positive interventions.
Share knowledge and practical experience with colleagues.
Challenge unsafe assumptions and behaviours.
Improve risk assessment and decision-making skills.
Create a stronger, more open safety culture.
Encourage personal responsibility for safety.
Reinforce critical safety principles and expectations.
The most valuable lessons are often learned from real experiences. Open discussion allows workers to understand not only what happened, but why it happened and what can be done differently in the future.

This section will continue to grow and provide practical discussion material on topics such as:

Building a Valuable Safety Resource
My goal is to continue adding new Time Out for Safety discussions over the coming months, creating a practical resource that workers, supervisors and organisations can use to promote meaningful safety conversations.
By sharing knowledge, discussing real-world challenges and learning from the experiences of others, we can help make workplaces safer for everyone.
Because the conversation you have today may prevent the incident that happens tomorrow.
